Hi APJ,
A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.
You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.
SOTD 1.7 – 7.7.2019
You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.
Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.
Go To It Crew.

Do you detect any almond with Pure eVe, as reviews commented? I do somewhat in dry down, but not overly almond scent to my nose.
I’ve decided Blanc Poudre is perfect office scent. Very soft and subtle, couldn’t be offensive to anyone, and I get a powdery sweet skin scent.
LikeLike
I do get a whiff of almonds but not that cherry almond note that is prevalent in Jergens skin lotion. Something about it reminds me of my custom made Brigitte but without the lilac note….creamy and powdery at the same time.
Poudre Blanc is definitely the perfect office scent!!!
LikeLike
I don’t get the cherry almond of Jergens either in Pure eVe, it’s more powdery, clean, soft musc with almond in dry down.
Is the cherry almond and marzipan scent related to heliotrope note? I’ve read that heliotropin is under reduced ratio in perfumery according to IFRA regulations and that is why fragrances with heliotrope smell less deep and almondy.
I looked and Pure eVe doesn’t have heliotrope listed in notes, but has “candied almond?”
LikeLike
Not sure if it’s heliotrope but it could be. Although Jergens still has that smell so I am not sure what aromachemical is being utilized in there.

I sprayed Boucheron EDT on the top of my hand because I hadn’t smelled it in something like 30; years and I was curious. I cannot believe that this beautiful perfume sells for a song. It also has a powdery vibe to my nose. I think it would be easy enough to temporarily abandon exploration of current expensive niche offerings and focus on the old classics as they are equally as good and sometimes better. This is what I would recommend to a perfumista on a tight budget.

During the weekend I ordered some decanting supplies from StC and a sample of Mont de Narcisse, hope this won’t take long to arrive in the mail. I need to make some decants for friends and we have a typical Scandinavian summer, so little risk of anything getting boiling hot in the mail.

Yeh, 100 ml is just ridiculous. What’s with this trend anyway?
LikeLike
Don’t know 🤔 Maybe to make more money? Years ago 30 and 50 ml were the norm from what I remember.
LikeLike
Yes, definitely, my first Saturday job as a young teen was in a chemist’s shop that had a very good perfume section and there were very few bottles larger than 50ml, and many came in 30ml. It’s understandable from a company’s perspective that one large bottle is cheaper to develop and buy than providing a range of smaller ones, but I think people’s buying habits have changed in recent years and not so many have a signature perfume anymore, preferring to develop a perfume wardrobe that is varied – and plentiful😉 And in that case not many would consider shelling out for 100 ml of something that might be used only occasionally. Or am I just talking about myself?
LikeLike
I wonder about the size of bottles as well. Perhaps because fragrance in the past was more “perfumey” and had better sillage and longevity and didn’t need to spritzed lavishly? A little went a long way? So many modern formulations and niche perfumes are barely detectable after an hour or so or wear and require big sprays in my opinion.
LikeLike
Kathleen,
You hit the nail on the head. My skin eats up all the current stuff but the vintage lasts much longer on my scent devouring skin. Quite a few years ago I was in Macys and asked for the tester of Azuree. Because it read as “Cologne” I sprayed lavishly….oh boy! I left a scent trail every where I went that day in the mall! Even the old Aliage Sport Cologne from Estee Lauder was a powerhouse….so yes, a little really DID go a long way!

Review it when you wear it. I found it on Fragrantica. Reviewers seem to think it is very sweet and not that powdery? I don’t know. I never tried the original, although I love Turkish delight!

I found it to be more sweet than pure powder….but there is this dried fruit vibe and even a bit of almond to my nose. I am hoping Kathleen will chime in as she is much better with descriptions. I will tell you that I like it.

Heading to the farmers market smelling divine…I get some fruit in Loukoum Poudre so it’s very context appropriate. When I return I will do exercise and clean the house. Post shower will test Bonheur de Vanille. Next week I will focus on the irises- Misia, Iris de Nuit, Le Sixtieme Parfum, Courreges Blanc and vintage no 19.
Hope everyone is having a great Saturday/Sunday! xoxo

Bell bottoms were so 70s😂 I’m just going as I am today. I’d look rather ridiculous in my ra-ra skirt. I was so Bananarama back in the day.

I will take her shopping for her very own so that she can pick a little something for herself. Though there’s a little bottle of Diorissimo that she loves here so she might get that to take home with her. She’s coming to stay the week after next- all by herself – so there will be shopping. She loves shopping 😀

Oh that sounds like so much fun!! And coincidentally, over on Portia’s Saturday question, I commented that Diorissimo was the first perfume that my mother gifted to me when I was about 15. She thought it highly suitable for a young girl. Girl. Her words 🙄

Ridiculous! Do you know my oldest childhood friend of 51 years had a mother who gifted me that Cologne disk Shalimar when I was 12 because she got it as a gift, didn’t like it and heard that I was “obsessed with perfume”? I wore it and thunked it a looooong time ago but I can still smell it in my memory and I remember that pointy tip stopper .

Such a great perfume. I’m pretty sure I never tried the cologne and I have no clue why not 🧐

t was in that disk bottle…I think Portia probably has a few of those-LOL! It was inexpensive back then but I bet you that disk bottle probably goes for hundreds now too.

I’m sure it does. I had Chamade in this disk bottle.

Oooo! I did not know that Chamade was also placed in the disk!

Oh yes! It wasn’t the perfume though. What could it have been back then? An EDC or EDT?

Probably EDC?

Yeah, I think you’re probably right. The reason I wondered is because it was quite powerful and extremely long lasting. From a cologne? Magic happens!

Cuz we know what’s going to happen if we do 😬 Winter will start on October 11th with a monster snow storm. And then the temperatures will not go above -20C until April 11th. And it will snow 15cm every second day. And on the days between there will be 10 cm of ice coating every conceivable surface. And once every three days there will be a power failure that lasts 48 hours. And the city workers will go out on strike and refuse to plow, salt or remove snow 😳. No, no. We will not complain. Not at all. Not even a peep!

I was actually thinking about Jean Nate the other day after reading Kate’s Nivea post….Nivea, 4711, Vitabath and Jean Nate all make me think of my childhood. I would love to sniff some or all of them.

Same here and spying that big bottle of Jean Naté made me very curious, but I don’t remember liking it that much back then. I tried it once and never repurchased it.

Ha! pl67 wearing of it today made me research as to the cheapest place to buy it-LOL! I do remember liking it and wearing it as a child….I am sure my eyes would well up if I smelled it again after so many years. Did you wear 4711 too? That was a staple in my home throughout my childhood.

Tried the 4711 but only my grandmother wore it. My mother didn’t consider it a proper perfume. I thought it was just okay.

I work less hours and have vacation time. But this year will be lots of work training so I will be in and out for most of July. Had off for the latter part of this week because of the holiday…Wednesday to Sunday (so I started the exercise on Wednesday and haven’t stopped!). Monday through Thursday will be challenging because I leave the house at 6am. IF I don’t do the exercise in the morning chances are I won’t do it at all because when I come home from work I am too exhausted.

According to calculations I did while reading the Saturday question, so far, I appear to be the most vintage member. Which is no honour 😠. On the other hand, I suppose it might drive up my value. Based on perfume observations, the oldest Shalimar vintages are the most expensive. Therefore more desirable. So I’ll take that formula and apply it to myself. Put that in your pipe and smoke it 🤣 And that is a quintessential old folks expression 😂😂

Marcella, look at it this way: which is more prized, cheap plonk or the finest vintage wine? So by my reckoning you are a highly-prized, ageing to utter perfection specimen😉 With undertones of oak and with a long finish on the palate.

Post exercise shower…now wafting of Bond no 9 Bryant Park…this is good in the summer….rhubarb, raspberry, rose and patchouli…also, love the name because my high school was very close to Bryant Park. But back in those days one did not venture through it because it was unsavory back then…lots of drug deals and drug selling going on. It’s been cleaned up since then and if I am not mistaken also hosts a NY Fashion show every week? I have been out of the city for so long I don’t remember! I do know that lots of tourists visit it as it is also near the NY Public Library which is a gorgeous landmark.

You need to go back to Bryant Park. Re-invent it as a park for perfume hustlers. You can show up with some Brigitte and get top dollar for it. Premium, single batch goods.

I just read up on Bryant Park courtesy of wikepedia…. apparently it was a “no go” zone due to drug dealing, prostitution and homelessness.

Yes that is true! Near Times Square as well. It was an interesting time. My mom worked in the Garment District so she would take the train with me and literally walk me to school because when I started high school at the age of 14 I was four foot nine inches and seventy eight pounds-LOL!

The NY Fashion Week is held twice a year: February and September. I worked just right in front of the public library for many years and it was always nice to see all the movement in the area during the event.
I used to go ice skating at the Bryant Park rink. So much fun! There is also a winter holiday market with lots of kiosks. Kind of pricey, but it is worthy to explore it. I never went to Times Square during the awful years. It is amazing how things changed for good. I go there several times a year and wish I could still work in the area. I really miss it!

Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue. I know, I know is a heresy for a perfumista to wear such an unpopular fragrance, but I saw the big full bottle all the way in the back of my cabinet this morning and I just grabbed it and sprayed lavishly on it. I had not reached for it in the past million years. I was surprised to find out that I am still fond of it. God! it has not evaporated a bit and it smells as good as the first day. I wish all my perfumes, especially the ones I love the most were as intact as Light Blue. Anyway, I still enjoy it!

Not heresy at all. Before it became popular and ubiquitous which lead to it’s demise amoungst perfumistas I had my own large bottle and loved it. I think it’s a perfect hot weather scent…so refreshing!!!

and actually I remember buying that bottle simultaneously with the original Dolce and Gabbana..they were identical bottles but Light Blue came with a light blue cap and light blue velvet box and Dolce and Gabbana came with a red cap and red velvet box…I loved that they matched. Dolce and Gabbana in the red cap was an amazing marigold scent…I don’t know why the discontinued it.
